Debt is Greatest Threat to US National Security

Warning of Perpetual Debt

"I place economy among the first and most important virtues and public debt as the greatest dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them they will be happy." Thomas Jefferson

The United States is traveling on an economic super highway toward a disaster of unprecedented dimension. Significant defects in fundamental public policies that have produced these dangerous conditions have been building for decades. Most troubling is a lack of awareness by national leaders and the general public of the magnitude of the dangers. If the perils are acknowledged, there are practical policy alternatives that might prevent, forestall, or moderate the severity of the approaching economic debacle.

There is a growing unease among the populace and national leaders. From a general view it appears as if national thinking is being molded by almost indiscernible forces that few can recognize. Alarms are being sounded that identify some of the problems, but there is no transparency of thought that conveys the root causes of the perilous conditions that now exist. Absent clarity of fundamental US public policy defects, solutions cannot develop.

Few politicians and retirees are aware that there really is no surplus cash to place in Social Security or Medicare Trust Funds and it is their own children or grandchildren that are being victimized to preserve political commitments and government fiscal obligations. Current workers are compelled by law to pay two income taxes on wages FIT & FICA to fund overly generous entitlement programs. Funds for their own retirement are being confiscated by employers and by government because of severe defects in tax and welfare policies and government accounting practices.  See  Two Income Taxes on Wages

Unsustainable levels of debt threaten US national security. The threats are real and if not brought under control a legacy of perpetual national debt is certain. A few minor changes with significant economic impact can alter the course being traveled toward prosperity. It will take years to work through this mess. Well conceived policies developed now can alleviate much of the suffering and spread this nation’s resources more equitably based on merit and need.

The most formidable barrier to overcome is public apathy. It is the objective of USPUBLICPOLICY.COM to break down that barrier. Armed with facts, well meaning American citizens will undoubtedly work for change. A place to start is an understanding of the characteristics of a fair tax system. See Principles of a Fair Tax System

A goal of USPUBLICPOLICY.COM is to identify and document public policy defects so they may be corrected. Working together, there is no problem facing this country that cannot be solved. Recognition of flawed policies will lead to clarity of purpose. Innovative, imaginative leadership will emerge from the crowd who will put national interest before their own and inspire the rest of us to work together.

Full exposure of imperfections in the Social Security retirement program may excite the public to pressure politicians to reform Social Security and the FICA Income Tax, See FICA Tax Victims or face class-action lawsuits that may compel them to do so. Successful restructuring of the severely flawed Social Security retirement program may serve as a "working" model for other essential tax and welfare reforms. See Social Security Truths

Sincerity is the secret to success.
The politician, who can best fake it, will likely be our next President!
 John Koraska

I cannot with clear conscience support a single candidate now seeking nomination to run for the highest office in the land. The one thing they seem to have in common is none understand the fundamental factors that are bankrupting this great country. John Koraska, November 28, 2007

Law cannot be properly evaluated by the quality of its words or intent; but, by the quality of fairness and justice found in the results produced by its application. John Koraska - Author: “Getting Ready for Hard Times”
